#2 Food Safe Waterproof Food Bag

In Camping & Woodcraft, Horace Kephart describes a waterproofed food bag made of Balloon Silk. We have two sizes of bags based on his description. The #2 bag will hold up 5# of dry ingredients (shown with a 5# bag of flour. Or, fille your #1 food bags with individual meals and place up to 8 in the #2 bag for more organization and waterproofing.

These work the same way that the #1 bag does, with ties at the top and middle of the bag so that it can provide twice as much waterproofing.

From a practical standpoint, saving weight in food carriage is the most practical approach for the woodcrafter. These food safe, waterproof bags weigh 1/3 the weight of similarly waterproofed canvas bags and when one considers that one must carry these bags even after they've been emptied of food, carrying the lightest weight bag makes the most sense.

The price of all our balloon silk products reflects the high cost of the fabric and the labor involved in in making them in an historically correct manner using the equipment and materials of the first half of the 20th Century.

The size of the #2 bag is 15" x 25" and weighs 1.9 ounces.
